New G2 roster kicks off BLAST with win over Complexity
Aleksi "Aleksib" Virolainen and Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov started their new adventure with a victory.
G2 have secured the first win of BLAST Premier Spring Groups 2022, taking down Complexity on Nuke 16-12. The best-of-one match saw Nikola "NiKo" Kovač start the event on fire, posting a 32-17 K-D to mark his return to the server alongside some new teammates.
Under the direction of freshly appointed head coach Rémy "XTQZZZ" Quoniam, Aleksib and m0NESY played a solid game, averaging a 1.37 and 1.18 rating, respectively. They will be moving on to the Group A upper bracket final where they will face the winner of Ninjas in Pyjamas vs. BIG.
Complexity opened up their defense on Nuke with a solid pistol round conversion, but their success was short-lived. The Europeans quickly responded with a second-round force buy to bring the game level, before suffering a loss of their own. From there, G2 were able to stabilize and establish themselves in the game, with NiKo and m0NESY combining for a total of 28 kills before switching sides 9-6 ahead.
The CT side saw the Europeans extend their lead even further, taking the second pistol and the following two rounds before Complexity were able to respond. NiKo kept terrorizing the opposition throughout the second half, before a double-kill from his AWPer on yard guaranteed match point for G2 at 15-7. A 1v1 clutch from Johnny "JT" Theodosiou kept the North Americans' hopes alive, leading to a brief comeback that brought the game back to 15-12. That was not enough, though, as G2 quickly closed the game 16-12.
